Ivy found *Winging It* to be a charming graphic novel about family, friendship, and nature, but ultimately landed on a lukewarm 3.5 out of 5—acknowledging it wasn't bad, but nothing that sparked strong feelings either. She appreciates its themes of adventure and determination and thinks fans of nature-centered graphic novels will enjoy it, even if it was just an "eh" read for her personally.

Ivy's Review

Winging It by Michelle Mee Nutter and Megan Wagner Lloyd features Luna Juniper Wright-Evans, a twelve-year-old girl who's nature-loving mother died when she was a baby. Her dad's job relocates him to Virginia, where his wife, Juniper Wright, grew up. Luna and her dad stay with her formal grandmother she barely knows. She is sad and doesn't want to move until she visits the National Museum of Natural History, where she sees the rare luna moth she was named for. Using her mother's old nature journals, Luna, who is a "creature of the indoors," decides to see a real luna moth. Along the way, she makes friends and becomes closer with her grandmother, figuring out how to feel at home in Virginia, and how to understand the mother she never knew. This is a charming and funny graphic novel about family, friendship, adventure, and appreciating all that life has to offer.

This book got a 3.5 out of 5 because I didn't like it, but I didn't not like it. I don't really have a reason other than that for my rating, it's just one of those books that are just...eh. Not bad, not good.

If you like graphic novels about adventure, determination, and nature, you'll probably like this one. I would recommend picking it up, but because I don't have strong feelings about this book, I'm not stressing it as much.

But! This is my very first graphic novel review! It was a little disappointing, but that's how life is. And, guess what? This is my seventh review. Only 43 more left until I qualify! I will be back soon with another review. Bye!

About This Book

From the Eisner-nominated creators of instant bestsellers Allergic and Squished comes a charming and funny graphic novel about family, friendship, and self-discovery! Twelve-year-old Luna never wanted to move from California to Virginia, even if it is near historic Washington, DC, and no matter how excited her dad is to introduce her to the area where her late mother grew up. And she definitely doesn't want to live with a very formal grandmother she barely knows. But during a visit to the National Museum of Natural History, the rarely seen luna moth for which Luna was named sparks her curiosity. Using her mother's old naturalist notebooks as a guide, Luna, who has always preferred the indoors, endeavors to see a real luna moth with her own eyes. Learning more about nature just might help her make a new friend, figure out how to feel at home in her new life, and understand the mother she never got the chance to know. Megan Wagner Lloyd and Michelle Mee Nutter have again teamed up to tell a charming and funny story of family, friendship, adventure, and appreciating all life has to offer.
