Ivy's Review
Greenwild: The World Behind the Door by Pari Thomson is about a girl named Diana "Daisy" Thistledown. When Daisy's mother, Leila Thistledown, the centre of Daisy's world, disappears, Daisy runs away from her school to find her. She runs into someone trying to capture the last gift Leila gave Daisy: a dandelion paperweight. Desperate to escape, Daisy hides in the Palm House in Kew Gardens where she finds a small door hidden in the foliage of the greenhouse. The door leads to a magical world called the Greenwild where everyone has green magic. She is taken under the wing of Mallowmarsh's commander, Artemis White, who takes her to her house. There, she meets a very hungry fellow named Indigo Podsnap. The next day, Indigo brings Daisy to his friends, "The Professor" Bellamy and Acorn Sparkler, and Daisy becomes fast friends with the three of them. Together, they work to try to figure out what's happening to all the Botanists, people who can do green magic, that are disappearing. Soon after, Daisy discovers a secret garden where she meets a boy named Hal. Daisy and her new friends try to figure out what's happening to the Botanists, as most of them have family members who have vanished. This book is the first in the Greenwild series, and is praised for its nature-based magic, adventure, and themes of family and environmentalism.
This book got a 5 out of 5 because it is PERFECT!!!! Before reading this, I thought perfection was a myth. It's not!!!!! Greenwild is the literal definition of perfection. I love it sooooo much!!!! I started reading book 2 and it's even better!!! You have to read this book; it's incredible! And at the end, there are 2 HUGE PLOT TWISTS THAT I DIDN'T SEE COMING AT ALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they were GREAT!!!!!!! I love this book.
If you like anything related to books, you'll love this!!!! Kidding, kidding. If you like books about nature, magic, and nature-magic with a great theme of protecting our environment and lots of action, you'll love this book! I don't think you could tell, but I loved Greenwild a LOT. It's my favorite book ever! I think! It made me happy and sad and laughy-y and "ohmygosh, that is the most unwise decision you could ever make" and more! I DEFINITELY recommend.
This is a really, really good series, as you might have guessed. You should definitely give it a try. If you don't like it, don't talk to me. I kid, I kid. If you don't like it, comment so I can see why! If you like it, great!!! This was nice, But I'm going to go. Bye!
