Ivy's Review
Chloe Vega and the Agents of Magic by Leslie Adame follows Chloé Paulina Vega Guerrero or Chloe Vega whose biggest fear is that her undocumented parents will be detained by Immigration. One day, her strange neighbor, Ms. O, gives Chloe a glass spoon that ends up being a "magic wand" called a Shifter. Once her parents discover she has the Shifter, they rush her to the Academy for Earth's Agents of Magic, where she learns how to control her powers so she can fight a power-hungry monster called Osthall who will stop at nothing to get an opal gem which will grant him unbeatable power.. Along the way, Chloe makes friends and enemies and uncovers things that the Agents of Magic would rather keep in the past. This book combines magic, high-stakes-adventure, and elements of mystery into this fast-paced story with unexpected twits and action that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
This book got a 4.5 out of 5, technically 4.75 out of 5, because I feel it was missing something. I don't know what, exactly, but there was something that Leslie Adame could have added to make this fire into a bonfire, if you know what I mean. Or something to make this 4.75 into a 5. But other than that, love it! I'm already searching for book two as I write this: Chloe Vega and the Missing Unseen. "I can multitask. I'm cool like that."
If you like magic, drama, sneakiness, and plot twists around every corner, you will love this book.
I find it interesting that Vega is not Chloe's last name, Guerrero is. So why is the title Chloe VEGA and the Agents of Magic, very good title by the way; that and the cover is what made me take it off the library shelf, and not Chloe GUERRERO and the Agents of Magic? Just a thought!
Well, this was fun. Come back soon for another review. Bye!
